Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.

KARACHI – A third liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessel from Qatar has entered the Strait of Hormuz after receiving special permission from Iran, according to shipping and port sources. Shipping sources said the LNG carrier is moving beyond Iran’s Hengam Island area in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel is carrying LNG loaded from Qatar’s major Ras Laffan terminal. According to Port Qasim sources, the shipment is being directed to the Engro LNG terminal in Pakistan. Officials further confirmed that another LNG vessel, Al-Kharsaah, has already arrived in Karachi. Sources added that a first LNG shipment had also berthed at Port Qasim on April 30, indicating a steady flow of energy cargo arrivals in recent weeks. Officials noted that within a span of 15 days, Iran has allowed the passage of three LNG vessels bound for Pakistan through the strategic waterway, highlighting continued regional cooperation in energy transit routes. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, through which a significant portion of global oil and LNG shipments pass, making developments in the region closely watched by energy-importing countries such as Pakistan. Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi had said earlier that a draft bill related to the Strait of Hormuz was prepared. Azizi, who heads the National Security Commission of Iran’s parliament, said the legislation would be presented for approval once parliamentary sessions resume. He added that the bill would be passed in an open session and would become law after approval from Iran’s Guardian Council. streamline the remittance process and ensure faster, more secure transfers.
