Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.
The federal government has announced a Rs4 per litre reduction in petrol prices, while retaining the existing rate for high-speed diesel (HSD) for the upcoming pricing cycle beginning June 6, 2026. A notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy on Friday stated that the ex-depot price of petrol has been cut from Rs381.78 to Rs377.78 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel will remain unchanged at Rs380.78 per litre. The revised fuel rates will take effect from June 6, 2026. The latest revision comes amid continued fluctuations in global oil prices and follows a trend of frequent adjustments in domestic fuel rates. In the previous review, the government had slashed the prices of both petrol and diesel by Rs22 per litre.
