PRESIDENT Donald Trump visit to China and his meeting with President Xi Jinping has emerged as the most debated diplomatic events of 2026. America presented the visit as an important effort to stabilize relations with China, reduce tensions over tariffs, discuss Taiwan and seek Chinese cooperation regarding Iran and global energy security. The visit appears to have benefited China more than America. Instead of projecting American strength, visit highlighted US’s growing dependence on China in economic, geopolitical and energy matters.
