Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.
Iran has warned that any Israeli attack on Lebanon will be considered a violation of the agreement reached with the United States. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that from Tehran’s perspective, one side of the agreement consists of Iran and Hezbollah, while the other side includes the United States and Israel. He warned that from now on, any Israeli attack on Lebanon and the continued occupation of Lebanese territory would be viewed by Iran as a breach of the agreement. Araghchi’s statement came as Israel said it had targeted “militants” approaching its soldiers in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah claimed it had launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks against Israeli forces. After the announcement of the agreement between Iran and the United States, Israel had stated that its forces would remain deployed in security zones established in Lebanon.
