LAHORE – The Lahore-Islamabad M2 Motorway is likely to get a new interchange, offering another facility to commuters of the one of the busiest route in the country. A proposed interchange on the M-2 Motorway near Farooqabad in Sheikhupura District is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity and economic activity, according to details of the project. The planned Farooqabad Interchange will be located between Hiran Minar and Khanqah Dogran interchanges on the M-2. The project aims to directly link the motorway with the Lahore–Sargodha Road, providing faster and more convenient access for surrounding areas including Farooqabad, Safdarabad, and Chuhar Kana. Officials say the project is designed to support agricultural, industrial, commercial, and religious activity by improving transportation and reducing travel time. It is also expected to enhance access to nearby religious and historical sites, including Gurdwara Sacha Sauda, and improve emergency access to major hospitals in Lahore. According to available details, the project has been included in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), while feasibility studies and design work have already been completed. If implemented, the new interchange could become a major infrastructure development for the Sheikhupura region, offering improved mobility and economic opportunities.
