ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday agreed to a development package for Karachi and Hyderabad on the demand of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P). A delegation of MQM-P called on the prime minister in Islamabad, which included Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal, Aminul Haque and Javed Hanif. Federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attaullah Tarar were also present in the meeting. During the meeting, the MQM-P delegation presented budget proposals and discussed the proposed constitutional amendment related to local governments, as well as matters concerning the governor’s office in Sindh. Sources said the delegation also raised issues related to development priorities in Karachi and Hyderabad. According to sources, the prime minister agreed in principle to a Rs20 billion development package for Karachi and Rs5 billion for Hyderabad. Sources further said the government assured MQM-P that it would take up the proposed constitutional amendment bill with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in consultation with the party. The prime minister said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supports MQM-P’s proposed constitutional amendment, according to sources. All eyes on Pakistan Budget 2026–27 as public awaits relief
