WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that an agreement with Iran could be reached within the coming week, linking the potential deal to an extension of a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international maritime traffic. At the same time, Trump said the United States would continue its maritime blockade of Iran and wait until Tehran was prepared to accept conditions acceptable to Washington. He described the blockade as firm and ongoing. Meanwhile, Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Commission of the Iranian Parliament, warned of serious consequences if attacks on Lebanon continue. In a public statement, Azizi cautioned both Israel and US forces, saying Iran was fully prepared to respond militarily and that American forces in the region could also face repercussions. In a separate message posted on X, Azizi reaffirmed Iran’s position regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that the strategic waterway would remain under Iran’s full administration and sovereignty regardless of any future agreement. According to the statement, decisions concerning transit routes, schedules, and maritime licenses remain an exclusive sovereign authority of Tehran.
