GILGIT – The district magistrate has imposed Section 144 across Diamer district to ensure peace and security ahead of the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections scheduled for tomorrow (7 June 2026). According to an official order, a complete ban has been placed on the display of weapons, aerial firing, fireworks, drones, quadcopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across the district. The use or possession of weapons and drone operations without prior written NOC will result in strict legal action. The restrictions will remain in place for 60 days. However, law enforcement personnel performing official duties have been exempted. The District Police Officer Diamer has been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order, while assistant commissioners and sub-divisional magistrates have been instructed to widely publicize the restrictions in Chilas, Darel, and Tangir. Copies of the notification have also been shared with the election cell, relevant returning officers, and the Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission. Meanwhile, according to the Election Commission’s code of conduct, election campaigning ended at midnight, and political parties and candidates are now making final preparations for polling day.
