ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reduced the life imprisonment of a woman convicted in her husband’s murder case to 14 years. A three-member bench headed by Justice Hashim Kakar heard the appeal of convict Afshan Sehar. The case involved allegations that she killed her husband following a domestic dispute related to financial issues and repeated demands for money from her parental home. During the proceedings, the defence counsel argued that the deceased husband was unemployed and had allegedly subjected the woman to violence, while also forcing her to repeatedly seek financial help from her family. It was further stated that the convict has four children and had been in prison since 2016. The prosecution maintained that Afshan Sehar struck her husband on the head, resulting in his death. Justice Hashim Kakar remarked on the unusual nature of the case, noting that it involved a wife accused of killing her husband, which is less commonly seen in court proceedings. The bench also questioned aspects of the evidence and trial record during the hearing. After hearing arguments from both sides, the Supreme Court converted the woman’s life sentence into a 14-year prison term.
