ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of National Health Services has clarified that the risk of Ebola virus in Pakistan remains extremely low amid the recent outbreak reported in parts of Africa. The WHO has recommended enhanced surveillance measures but has not advised any travel restrictions at this stage. The Ministry further stated that Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has directed precautionary steps in view of the situation abroad. Authorities are ensuring effective preventive measures to protect the public, while the ministry and the National Institute of Health (NIH) continue to closely monitor developments. The spokesperson said that, following the minister’s instructions, monitoring at all airports across the country has been strengthened to detect any potential health threats. Implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR) guidelines is also being ensured. Health authorities have issued alerts to all provincial departments and border health services, directing them to remain vigilant. The ministry and its subordinate institutions are on high alert to respond to any emergency situation. The NIH, according to officials, is fully equipped for Ebola diagnosis, and all necessary arrangements have been put in place as a precautionary measure.
