LESCO announces another condition for solar users above 14 kilowatt

Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.

LAHORE – Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has introduced new regulations for consumers installing solar systems under the net metering policy. Reports said domestic and commercial consumers installing solar systems up to 14k W can proceed as usual. However, consumers planning to install systems exceeding 14k W are now required to purchase and install their own private transformer. The policy also establishes a five-year agreement between LESCO and the consumer, granting permission for electricity generation over that period. The application process will be fully online through authorized companies, with steps including submission of the application, issuance of a generation license by NEPRA, and final connection. LESCO has already begun receiving applications and forwarding them for processing. This move is aimed at regulating high-load solar installations while streamlining licensing and connection procedures for large-scale consumers.
