LAHORE – The Punjab government has announced a new technology-based strategy to strengthen tax monitoring and improve revenue collection across the province. Under the plan, surveillance cameras will be installed at selected marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and large food chains to track commercial activities and ensure compliance with tax regulations. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Officials reviewed different measures aimed at increasing transparency and reducing tax losses. The provincial government is also considering making digital payment systems compulsory for major restaurants and business outlets to reduce dependence on cash transactions and create a clearer record of sales. For the fiscal year 2026-27, Punjab has set a revenue collection goal of Rs528.5 billion. Authorities said businesses involved in underreporting sales, issuing false receipts, or avoiding tax obligations will face strict action. Maryam Nawaz directed officials to regularly monitor progress, submit weekly updates, and expand the PRA’s enforcement capacity. She also called for greater use of modern technology, improved sector analysis, and stronger public awareness campaigns about taxation. The government believes digital tools and automated monitoring systems will help increase accountability, improve tax compliance, and support better revenue management in Punjab.
