LAHORE – Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has announced the temporary closure of several public transport services on 9th and 10th Muharram in three cities as part of security arrangements for Ashura events. The authority said Metro Bus, Electric Bus and Speedo Bus operations will remain suspended for two days in view of the expected movement of mourning processions and religious gatherings. Officials confirmed that the service suspension will be enforced in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi to support security measures and traffic management during Muharram observances. PMTA stated that additional arrangements have been made due to large processions and majalis across the province. The decision was taken to help ensure public safety and allow authorities to manage routes and security operations effectively. In Lahore, several major Muharram processions are scheduled to take place, with the central procession set to begin from Nisar Haveli and end at Karbala Gamay Shah after passing through its customary route. Another significant procession will depart from Pando Street, move towards Khaima-e-Sadat, and later return to Pando Street for its conclusion. A separate main procession will also be held from Qasr-e-Batool in Shadman. Meanwhile, Zuljinah processions are expected to be taken out from various areas of the city, including Lal Pul Nabi Pur Shian, Model Town, Chuhng and Thokar Niaz Baig.
