KARACHI – Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has weighed in on the ongoing debate over the food cultures of Karachi and Lahore, saying Karachi offers greater variety while Lahore is known for its quality food. In a video shared on X, Wasim Akram said he had been watching intense debates on social media over the food of the two cities, joking that “swords and axes” had come out as people argued over which city had better cuisine. The former fast bowler said he was born and raised in Lahore and lived there for 42 years before moving to Karachi, where he has been residing for the past 14 years. Referring to comments made by former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry about Karachi’s food, Wasim Akram said he wanted to settle the debate once and for all. He recalled recently visiting Lahore during the final of the Pakistan Super League, where he revisited his favorite food spots to eat chakkar cholay and ordered traditional chops from his hotel. – Let’s settle this debate once & for all… #Karachi #Lahore @fawadchaudhry pic.twitter.com/G2buvW2n9X — Wasim Akram (@wasimakramlive) May 7, 2026 However, he apologized to Lahoris and said that while Lahore certainly has some outstanding food destinations, Karachi’s multicultural population gives it a wider range of cuisines and flavors. Wasim Akram added that the use of spices in Lahore’s food has increased over time, saying traditional Lahoris were not known for eating excessively spicy food. He added Karachi has more food variety, while Lahore serves good food but offers comparatively less diversity. Mitchell Starc breaks Wasim Akram’s record, hails him as greatest left-arm pacer
