Photo: Special Arrangement An almost 4-year-old boy fell into a 220-foot-deep, nine-inch wide borewell on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) in Ambala’s Dhanora village while carrying food for his father at a worksite. Briefing the media at the spot, Deputy Commissioner Ambala Ajay Singh Tomer said the child was playing nearby when he slipped into the borewell. “He had come here with food for his father, who was working. While playing, the child fell into the borewell,” Mr. Tomer said. The diameter of the borewell is around nine inches. Rescue teams were rushed to the site soon after information was received in the morning. “Emergency teams were dispatched immediately. Rescue operations are underway. Right now, Army and NDRF teams have also arrived. NDRF is here with all their specialised equipment,” the DC told reporters. He added that Army teams had also brought heavy equipment which will be used if needed. A team of doctors is at the site and medical checkups of family members are being conducted. “Our effort is to rescue the child safely,” Mr. Tomer said. The DC said the borewell belonged to a neighbour and was left uncovered. “The concerned SHO has been directed to take necessary action. This is negligence — the borewell was left open,” he said. On the camera feed lowered into the borewell, Mr. Tomer said it was too early to comment. “At this point, it is too early to say anything about the camera feed. We are making all efforts,” he said.
