Pakistan’s inflation eased slightly in June 2026 to 11.1% on a year-on-year basis, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday. The latest reading marks a decline from 11.7% recorded in May 2026, though it remains significantly higher than the 3.2% inflation rate registered in June 2025. On a monthly basis, inflation fell by 0.3% in June, reversing the 0.5% increase seen in May 2026. In comparison, prices had risen by 0.2% during the same month last year. For the fiscal year 2025-26, average inflation was recorded at 7.05%, compared to 4.49% during the previous fiscal year. In urban areas, CPI inflation rose 11.2% year-on-year in June, slightly lower than the 11.8% increase reported in May, while the corresponding figure in June 2025 stood at 3%. Month-on-month, urban inflation declined by 0.5%, following a 0.7% rise in the previous month. Meanwhile, rural inflation reached 10.9% annually in June 2026, easing from 11.5% in May but remaining above the 3.6% level seen a year earlier. On a monthly basis, rural prices remained unchanged after rising 0.3% in May. In its latest economic outlook, Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance said improving geopolitical conditions driven by peace efforts in the Middle East have boosted global market confidence. The ministry noted that declining international crude oil prices are expected to ease imported inflation pressures while helping reduce domestic fuel and transport costs. It projected inflation for June 2026 to stay within the 11–12% range, adding that softer oil prices could also support Pakistan’s external sector by lowering the country’s import bill.
