Alpina was just spun off as a separate BMW brand, but it has a long history of luxury and performance that stretches back to the 1960s, when it began modifying and racing production BMWs. Its first production model built as a separate carmaking entity is expected to be called the BMW Alpina B7, a callback to the famous Alpina-tuned B7 coupe from 1978. The Vision BMW Alpina concept car gives us our best look yet of what BMW Alpina has in store for its first production model: an elegantly styled two-door with ultra-luxury presence and turbocharged muscle.

A V-8 engine, probably turbocharged, is said to be under the hood of the concept, leading us to believe that the BMW Alpina models will, at least initially, be powered by internal-combustion engines. The company says its cars will be highly customizable, and this concept shows some of the premium features that buyers can expect, including crystal controls. Although the concept appears to share little with known BMW production cars, we do see the company's latest dashboard-spanning panoramic iDrive infotainment center near the base of the windshield.
